There are a few key things to think about when selecting your massage therapist & establishment. We have listed them here. 

 

Who Are You Going To Get?

The Chains: Chain Massage establishments have some great massage therapists. The problem is that they also have some that are not so great. If you have been there I am sure you have experienced.

Us: We have one deep tissue expert and he is really, really good. You know what you are going to get every time you make an appointment.

 

Price

The Chains: Their pricing is all a little different, but generally they have an intro price and then you pay monthly. You get one massage and a discount on other massages.

Us: We have the same sort of set-up. You pay for an intro massage (only $29 for a limited time if you click here) and then you can either pay as you go or do a monthly membership. Our Memberships are currently cheaper than the chains, but we are only taking a few clients at this extremely low price so lock one of them in now if this works for you. The Chains: Maybe. Most of them can give relaxing massage and a few can actually massage deep enough to give some serious muscle release, but there are only a handful of massage therapists out there who can perform deep tissue release and know how to

Because of my background, I understand the pains that golfers and all athletes go through. I have an Associates Degree in Physical Education and as a Life Member of the PGA of America (Professional Golfers Association). I have spent my massage career trying to understand how to relieve those pains. It is my passion to help people feel better.

My Approach:
I take a consultative approach to my pain relief practice. Our initial interview last 5-10 minutes and is all about determining the problem area.  From there I conduct an exploratory massage to isolate the problem area, diagnose the issue and determine the best massage treatment which may include any or all of the following massage modalities.

 

 

Types Of Massage In Pat’s Practice

Swedish Massage

The strokes and manipulations of Swedish Massage are each conceived as having a specific therapeutic benefit. One of the primary goals of Swedish Massage is to speed venous return from the extremities. Swedish Massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissue of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic wastes. It improves circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons, keeping them supple. Swedish Massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system while at the same time relaxing the nerves themselves. As it can help reduce emotional and physical stress it is often recommended as part of a regular program for stress management. It also has specific clinical uses in a medical or remedial therapy.It can also be used for treatment in sports therapy. The outer layers of muscle called the myofacial tissues may become adhered to the muscle instead of a natural gliding causing extra tension and tightness. A Swedish massage can assist in a slow release of the problem area. There are four strokes in Swedish massage: effleurage, petrissage, friction and tapotement. Effleurage is the long flowing strokes, petrissage is the kneading strokes, friction is used to generate heat and bring blood to the surface, and tapotement is the hitting type strokes. The aim of a Swedish massage is to relax the tissues of the body, relieve stress and improve circulation. Most all Massage Therapists incorporate deep tissue work where needed, with their Swedish massage.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a form of massage which utilizes specific strokes and stretches to help obtain maximum performance and physical conditioning with less chance of injury or pain. It helps to obtain maximum conditioning by increasing power, endurance and flexibility both before and after an event or work out. Performance INCREASES OF 20% ARE COMMON as a result of massage sessions. In post event sessions the Therapist will isolate the individual injuries where a person may have overly worked muscles, and possibly created inflammation. The problem area can be treated by stretching and soft tissue work. A cold pack may be applied to decrease the inflammation. Conversely a heat pack may be applied to get muscles loose to where the problem area can be worked out.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue This is a general term for a range of therapies that seek to improve the function of the body’s deep connective tissues and/or muscles, not just the surface nerves or the lymphatic system. Deep finger, hand or elbow pressure are often used to stretch, compress and release contracted connective tissue and muscles. It involves digging down below the upper layer, into the second, third and forth level of muscle and working out issues in congestion. The massage therapist can isolate the congested area and through pressure can cause it to release. Although this deep kneading may cause initial pain, the release of the tension will bring healing to the muscle.
